Windows on Ubuntu! Vmware

Well for those of you who would not want windows to take up much of your disk space and want the operating system , here is the choice, Vmware . Its a old and well known tool. I tried it on my machine running Ubuntu 7.10 and works like charm :) . So instead of having all those grub and boot loading problems switch on and switch off any OS you like. I am also running Sloaris(build 55) on it with no issues.

Yes its festival time. And what better reason than Diwali to enjoy !!."The festival of lights" is celebrated all over India . Well there are many stories behind the festival, each having its significant local presence. But apart from all of it, Diwali is a festival which bring people closer. Be it the deepas in front of houses, or the monumental buildings lit up, or be it the colorful decorations.. its full of colors and joy.After all thats what diwali is all about.. a close bond between people. A big concern is the growing pollution levels at the time of festival due to crackers. Promote safe and clean Diwali. Make your life colorful during diwali :)

Mysuru Dasara

Its been a long time since my last blog. But now i have a lot of things to share !! its festive season. Navaratri , Diwali .. all that enjoyment and some facts :). Everyone knows about the grand Mysore Dasara procession. One of the major tourist attractions during the festivities . But not many know about the 400 year old very interesting , intriguing facts in pages of history. I hate history because of the low scores i used to get in schooling days ! :) . But when u find out more about it , its so full of surprises. So after a not so long introduction about what i want to share , ill come to the point .

This is about the family of Mysore Maharajas .And the history books state these interesting facts. During the time of Vijaynagar empire , mysore was a subordinate kingdom , indirectly under the rule of Vijaynagar Kings. But in dew course when Vijaynagar lost its peak and other provinces became powerful the king of mysore at that time declared Mysore as an independent kingdom . It was not long when Vijaynagar gained back its lost power and the king of Mysore was defeated .

But an offensive was raged against the Vijaynagar kingdom by the ministers and army commanders of the Mysore empire . A conspiracy that led to the death of the king of Vijaynagar , leaving Vijaynagar at the mercy of the conspirators who took control of it . Alamelu was the queen of Vijaynagar at that time . Being a very rich empire Vijaynagar queen had a lot of jewelry with her . And her love for these jewels , led to a not so popular but interesting event in history of Mysore dynasty .

The king of Mysore wanted that those jewels be a part of his treasury and planned to have it by force as Alamelu had not agreed to part with it. Alamelu came to know about the intentions of the king . When messengers from the Mysore king arrived , they told her to part with the jewels as it would be made a part of the temple riches. But Alamelu did not budge and went on hiding near the now Talkad. But the kings spies got to know this and tried to take the jewels forcefully from her . Angered by this Alamelu jumped in to the cauvery river and cursed the Mysore king . The curse was :
Let the place where im drowning become a "madu" ( a very deep hole admist of a shallow place beneath water) , and that the whole of Talkad get submerged in sand , and let the King of Mysore not have any kids!!.
400 years after that curse , even now the King of Mysore does not have a kid . Few months after Alamelu's death Talkad got submerged in sand as a result of flooding . Even now the king of Mysore adopts a son . Till date there has not been a single natural heir to the thrown. Interesting point its been happening for almost 400 years now!!. Also the adopted child , who then becomes the King of Mysore will have a successor , as he is not the natural successor of the throne .But this successor wont have no kids!!. Amazing isnt it.
The current maharaja Srikantadutta Narasimharaja Wadiyar is the son of Jaichamarajendra Wadiyar . Srikantadutta Narasimharaja Wadiyar has no kids !!.

Champions!!!

World champions :) Chak de INDIA:) Well peaking at the right time. Indian economy is getting stronger.. Indians are making a mark all over the world..and here is the crown jewel.. Cricket a relegion in INDIA.. and we are the T20 Champions!!! :) What else can you ask.. India Pakistan worldcup finals and match going till the last over.Thats India Pak match. All the thrill... all that scoldings... all those emotions..HURRAY there the last wicket falls and we win :) It was a thrilling match of cricket.Im sure all Indian fans would have jumped and shouted when we won. Worth all the heart attacks the match gives :)

Ganesh chaturthi

Ganesh bappa mourya!! Happy Gouri Ganesh :-).This weekend you might be a bit more clever ( so keep the god Ganesh happy :-)). Yes its Ganesh chaturthi , festival celebrated in most parts of India . The god of knowledge as he is known will be seen in different shades matching the imagination of the devotee (IT Ganesh with a cd instead of chakra!! ). Its nice to see that in this fast moving and modern world people still follow these rituals , in fact thats what makes INDIA different. We _Indianize_ things :-).

Team Out!

Who said there is no fun at workplace! Its been more fun then work :) It was a team outing at Ebony(28th,Tuesday).For those of you searching for a nice place to eat in midst of your hectic work and need a cool nice place to spend time , Ebony is a good choice. The 13th floor balcony offers you a great view of Bangalore. It was our (Srivatsa, Vikas, Nandini, Archit, Jagadeesh : in reverse intelligence order :p) first salary treat. After a long discussion and lot of analysis as to which place to go we finally decided on Ebony. It was nice fun . A good experience. Not to mention , it did help us knowing each other well . We got gifts from out seniors as well :)

And finally due to all those advantages of team outings and parties " we the freshers of Nokia Siemens Solemnly swear that we will organize such outings regularly :) "

Beautiful desktop , very delicately programmed graphics , awesome looking icons ... effects that you will just keep trying out. These are few of the many things you will get if u install Beryl on your machine. Although there may be other versions(similar to it) but as far as i have explored beryl is easy to use and awesome !! If you are lost Beryl is the 3 dimensional desktop for your system .. but.. currently available on LINUX and SOLARIS platforms( yeah yeah windows pppl are tryin to copy dont worry). You can get complete information of how to install and use it through internet. Its old now and very popular. I am writing this post so that i could put few screen shots of the 3d desktop i am using :). Orchid Day!

A nice hotel , Royal Orchid! But what was i doing there early morning 9?? It was induction program from NSN. Mr Ramesh had already glanced through few slides when I entered. It was a n interesting session,got to know more about the organization, what are we aiming for and our roles.
After the presentation was the most important lunch! Afternoon session , Ms Madhu Bist took over.. a presentation full of information ( half complicated to try and understand:-P) . Madhu had planned a small interactive game for us, so that we get to know others well. And that was it. Induction ended!! Well if not much of activities it was fun.Probably the small strength made it a simple one.

Freshers Party

Well the enjoying part of work is here . A get together organized by Service management team of NSN. August 3rd. My first on stage singing performance!!!! ( clap clap ) . Had a lot of fun.. but the whole day spent seeing others eating chocks :p and there we were behind the managers :) well u know this case " behind every successful manager , there are 2 freshers :p"

Work begins....

One month back I was sitting in my room , thinking how will be my days in the company I join!!?
23rd July 2007 .. my first working day in Nokia Siemens Networks . Office in MG road... filled with Ramaiah friends. Its more like a mini college . Its been 2 weeks of fun filled work ( if any :-)).
