Beach Trippin on bike

Our beloved Hippo aka Motu aka Krishna Mohan .. was getting married .
The DOM - Date of Marriage (read as Death of Man) was 1st May.
Only Mohit and me were free so we decided to travel to KM's place. We landed a day before and had nothing to do.

Being big fans of bikes, we were discussing bout the bikes parked around when the idea stuck.
Logical Next step - Bike trip
Thiruvananthapuram - Poovar- Kovalam - Thiruvananthapuram

Two guys on a bike, fighting to ride it, made it to the beaches and back.
It was amazing .. from the narrow roads (I mean really narrow roads) to (10 feet) wide highways ..
between settlements, and chetas and chetis ... good fun.

Let me see.. here is how the trip went
Morning time : Mohit was riding ( being a good friend I did not fight because it was city roads full of traffic ) when the Bullet stopped and would not start. A local mechanic who recharged the batteries so now all was fine.

Along the way - BEAutiful roads once you reach near Kovalam.
Nice beach with a light house.. lot of shacks next to the beach..
where you can plan for lunch ... we headed to Poovar first ..

Mohit pushing the bike, I was documenting the trip

A shack in kovalam

So there we were.. having lunch and planning the next route. Poovar seemed to be a nice idea. The road seemed very close to the beaches (in google maps) so we headed that way ...

And this is how it went -

As Mohit was riding I had to sit behind, burning my legs as the silencer was so hot it could have started a forest fire ..

Narrow roads but manageable ...

Intermittent wide highways ... coconut trees .. lot of coconut trees ... huts .. huts with dish antennas ... churches ... lot of people ... nearing the beach .. empty roads .. local boys drinking with stocks in their car .. drunk guys took photos ... one of them asked my name 4 times ..

I lied my name was Karthik .. then forgot and told my real name .. then lied again 4th time when asked...

We had reached Poovar ...

The beach was empty was we were there early .. stayed there for some time soaking in the beauty .. vast shore line .. packed with boats just back from fishing trips ...

This was poovar ... we hit a dead end in the road . That was near the Mangroves in Poovar and an empty eerie construction with lot of eagles hovering ... That was a sign .. we headed back from there to Kovalam ...

Scary house

Kovalam was amazing . As mentioned earlier , the light house beach is a nice place .. to have late lunch .. lay back and enjoy the beautiful place ... there are many beaches around .. the one next to light house beach is Hawa beach .. and some other places ... somewhere there we took this pics below ...

We were there for the sun set which was amazing .. all that fun and riding had worn us out .. but the view of sun setting beyond the horizon .. wow .. that was a beauty ..

Remembered we had a reception to attend ... From there we headed back to the hotel.. dressed up in suits.. rode the bullet in the smallest possible gullies to reach the reception. Thus ended the bike trip. :)

Continuing my previous post on my Nepal Visit...

I gave a summary on the travel and also some place listings to see and places to stay.
Well there are many links and tripadvisor blog and TripAdvisor Nepal of course can give you many details.

I am a pure vegetarian, so if you are a veggie you might find some helpful facts below

First of all, as i have already suggested few places to stay I will write a lil bit on restaurants and food to try.

Thamel has many restaurants that you can try. If you have decided to stay near Thamel then you can walk to most of the good ones.

Pure vegetarian restaurants are hard to come by. Ones I liked

OR2K - This is a must visit place . Has lot of options for veg and a lovely place to sit and relax. Like most other places this also offers free wifi so you dont have to run around making arrangements if you have a good phone or a laptop.
Food is awesome and the range of menu is good.

What you should not miss is the Goat Cheese Pizza. Just mouth watering ...

The Himalayan Java is there at 3 Places. Coffee lovers shud just go to this place atleast once. I visited all the 3 places and i must say .. its a very neat organized place with good menu ... lot of travellers and trekkers prefer this place as a meeting point or just to hang out.

Apart from these there are many diners that you will find in the walking street/market in Thamel.
Indians can also find many marwadi diners that provide good Indian style food. Nothing like having paratha and sabji if you are craving for home like food !!

--------- Thats it on the food section . Will write more on places and what to do in coming posts
Cheers!!

Before details, take a min to pay homage to all those Sherpas who were killed in the avalanche. May their soul rest in peace.

Well, pardon the cricketing jargon in the title but its the IPL season !! With lots of matches and parties, not a bad idea to catch a match in a different place.

Ankur [who is also referred as Adha Thakur in some earlier posts] was getting married . Had to be there for the occasion. And what more, it was going to be my first proper North Indian marriage experience.
Marriages in India can not get better than a North Indian fan fair marriage, lots of dance, lots of color admist lot of rituals and grandeur.

The venue for this "much awaited"[ by me and Mohit] marriage, was in Gorakhpur. A place in Uttar Pradesh.
This is near to the Indo Nepal border. Would not get a better time to plan a trip to Nepal and back for marriage. And so the adventure began.

[I will write about the places in detail and hence might write the post in parts. Through out I will try to give information on places where stay can be planned and also food joints. For Veggies especially.]

Nepal : Where Buddha was born, land of Everest [although its in China Nepal Border ] and a spiritual significance for Hindus as PashupatiNath resides there.
So most part of the trip plan included sight seeing and few temple visits mostly during evenings.

How to get there : Well there are flights from Delhi-Kathmandu that are frequent. There is flight service from Varanasi as well . So if you are planning a trip to Varanasi you can take advantage of it.

Summary of where to stay and what to see and what all to do in Nepal

Places To Visit:
Kathmandu
- Thamel
- Pashupatinath Temple

- Buddha Temple
Stay

Ambassador Garden Home

Its a nice hotel middle of busy Thamel streets. Good for breakfast . You will find a lot of places nearby for lunch and dinner.

There is another hotel : Encounter
This is also a neat place to stay. Also near Thamel. The hotels restaurant caters to your needs.

In Nagarkot Stay at Club Himalays
An amazing place for the view . Sunrise and Sunset are a must

Pokara has a range of hotels for you to stay. Although the main attraction here is adventure sports like paragliding and white water rafting. The rates are standardized and you can ask your hotel guy to book them for you.

Connectivity

Most of the places are WiFi Enabled, so you should not have any issue in connectivity.
Also NCell which is the local Nepal service provider has cheap call rates, and activation is immediate.
I used to cycle around the main road where I live everyday ...to school and back .. cycle home for lunch and rush back ... very few vehicles , very few honks ..

Now I can not even cross the same main road by walk .. its jam packed and busting with vehicles honking and zoom by ...

What changed ... actually apart from the number of vehicles that increased drastically in these past few years, there has been another major change that we tend to neglect. Its our mindset and way of life.

I remember the days when a car owner used to stop the car, go over to the side and demand or shout out if his/her vehicle got a scratch from another . Now its just a wave of hand a smile and off you go. If you try to stop and inspect the damage you get a thousand honks and people shouting "move on" .

Yes "MOVE ON" is the mantra of the day... anytime anywhere . Be it traffic or life , people just do not have enough time . It seems as though there is nothing that is worth other than what is next. No one seems to be enjoying the present . Its all what happens or what they plan next that drives today's busy life.

Ever wondered what you might be missing ? Just slow down a bit .. look back ... think ...feel .. enjoy ... share ...
Just do not become another mechanical part in the mechanical world ..
Having said that ... I need to leave early today so that I can escape the evening traffic :P now that is planning and not just thinking "What Next" !!

This is how it happened ... The Plan ...
And why the trip was so awesome : It was a very informative trip :P Few things "we" learnt

Dont listen to Aunti ji song while driving.. will distract you and you might hit a blue van

Avoid eye contact with your fello travellers after you have miraculously escaped form a sure death accident and you are driving

Kamat is just further on the same road from Bangalore to Hassan

Dont drive between the bushes it will scratch the car

None of the ATMs neat Hassan work

To the details :)
How many of you out there have done this : Gone to Google and searched " good weekend getaways near Bangalore " ... many of u rite . Which place classifies as a weekend getaway then
Lets see , not too far to drive by ( 3 -4 hours max ) , preferable not too crowded so that it does not remind you of the city life all over again , has a good scenic tag to it so that it does not come in to one of the stereo type commercial resorts ....

Well , this by far is one of the best places near Bangalore to visit during a weekend. "The Rappa"
This place is near Hassan , makes it a 3 -4 hour drive from here . The place is located on the back waters of the Gorur Dam built accross the Hemavathi river . You can just drive by next to the river , park your car have a good swim ( with a llife jacket) and just sit back and relax. The place has few cottages .. do not expect anything luxurious .. its more like a camping place where you can have your food , go for a swim , kayak to the near by highland ... camp there have fun and be yourself.

We left Bangalore around 7 ish reached there around 11 with a stop for breakfast for about 30 mins.. The Hassan road is a good one to drive , the new toll roads do give u rashes when you have to pay up ( around 120 one way ) but worth it . En route you will find many places to stop by for a break and have something to eat. Keep your camera handy as some places on the way are picture perfect .

ShettyHalli church on the way to Rappa

Once you reach the place , you will love it . Its right next to the river , you can practically stop the car next to it and jump in ... mind you , you will be greeted by the cutest group of mans best friends :) As soon as we reached , we hit the water ,,, had a good swim and enjoyed for about a hour and two . We then settled down in one of the cottages , had a good lunch and planned up for the evening . It was drizzling and so we decided to kayak later and lazed around here there enjoying the beauty of the place taking pics and playing with the dogs ..
"Mistiff" ya you got it right - a pug - grew very fond of AT ... AT was also .. well how do I say this ... well I better not say this .. so ya there was a good bonding :P Liquid loves dogs and wells so we had a hard time keeping him off both!! :P

We played football , lot of space around ... drove around next to the river ... Its so amazing how time flies when you are in a place like this .. before we knew and it was dark . We decided to kayak the next morning and lit up a camp fire . A camp fire , next to the river bed , far far away form the daily stupid office stuff ... lots of talks , lots of fun .. listening to music and having plate a plate full to eat ... nothing more you can ask for isn't it :)

Next day .. we were up by 8!! ya too early by our standards but we had a reason . Kayaking in the beautiful morning weather ... well we could'n have asked for a better time . It was superb. We kayaked to the nearby highland , and back and then to the other highland ... just lay back and let the currents take you ... not too far else ull be facing the damn dam ! All in all its a good place to visit .. we had awesome fun and were in no mood to come back to Bangalore . But we had to ... :( :(

Sahyadri as its also called , is the mountain range towards west of India . The dense forests of the range constitute of many species of flora and fauna. This range has one of the most breath taking sites and one of the wildest places that a nature lover must visit.

This time our visit here was a special one. It was supposed to be a bachelors party!! and a wedding to attend in mysore ... well ya ... bachelors party and in a dense forest with wild animals ... i know !! but it was all for our friend Karthik !! thats what he liked and we thought we'll "sacrifice" this once for his happiness ... he was getting married after all ;)

So here goes , as usual the planning had started few months back starting from Thailand , to have a "hangover" kind of bachelors party .. but then no one drinks in the gang so why waste flight tickets :P oh ya , the gang by the way , if uve read previous posts is the same gang of friends together from school days ... ya "chaddi dosts"... so you can imagine how much pain taking planning we would have done .. ya a total of 15 minutes!! and we set off!! :)

Destination - Ooty - Masinagudi - Mysore

Ooty - Nothing beats a night drive to ooty , having one of the most dangerous ghat sections and in that cold and misty night ... me ayub and muneeb getting belted by karthik ofcourse ... We left bangalore very early.. around 2pm .. plan was to reach ooty that night , the problem was the bandipur route that takes us to ooty closes at 9pm sharp, miss that and we have to stay in the car for the night. As expected the journey was very quiet and peaceful , with few fights between friends and being non smokers we had to stop the vehicle regularly to get our dose of coffee though Karthik was driving all the while!! We hit the Bandipur check point at 8 : 45 . There we refilled the necessities for a long winding ghat section ride .. yummies and a lot of poppins.. cant get started on poppins now , it has a long histry with muneeb .. ill write a complete post on it later ;) .

The road to ooty is admist the dense bandipur jungle , from the karnataka border. Once we hit tamil nadu , the forest range is called madhumalai. There are two roads , one through Gudalur , a long one and the other a steep climb with 32 hair pin ( sorry if am wrong with numbers , it was very dark and coudn read properly ) bends , via kalhatti . This route has wild animal habitats through out and steep climb and narrow bends make it all the more dangerous . Hence closed at night .

Well you know , it was a bachelors party , and we were supposed to attend a wedding on the way back so we did not take any chances , we took the dangerous but short route ( nothing that gandhiji cant manage ) and reached ooty by 11. <what as="as" bachelors="bachelors" happened="happened" in="in" of="of" ooty="ooty" part="part" party="party" stays="stays"></what>

Day2 - To Masinagudi .
Our destination was "The Wilderness" , a small resort in the dense forests .

Perfect weather to drive . The route back from Ooty to masinagudi is scenic. On thw way you can see many wild animals and birds , so make sure you have enough time and drive slowly to spot these and enjoy the ride .

Wilderness : The resort has 5 cottages and can accommodate around 20 at a time . Great location a midst of the dense forest , hospitality is good and great tasty food . There is a stream flowing just behind the resort and the safari camp and few other tourist places are very nearby , making this one of the ideal places .

We decided to chill out , have fun there instead of roaming places and get exhausted as we had seen almost all the places there and enjoyed the nature .

It had been years since I had seen a fire fly , which was a very common occurrence at my home garden when I was a kid . Just like sparrows they all vanished ... Night brings jungle to life ... the sheer vastness and types of sounds you can hear gives you a different feeling all together , and the sounds of elephants trying to barge in their old feeding grounds and being scared away by the humans , also gives u a different feeling -

A mistake that we are continuously doing and its about time that government takes action stopping illegal resorts and other human interference, that is invading these forest lands .

Well too much serious talk.... coming back ... it was an amazing experience and as for the details < sorry bachelors party :) >
From here we visited Mysore , to attend Aruns wedding and we were back to Bangalore .

A fun filled emotional and probably the last trip that we as a school gang might have gone :)

All we have now is a route complete with bottle necks, traffic signals and pot holed roads. That's not a new problem to we Bangalore's is it.. But lately there has been a traffic boom. Morning 9, you see the roads jammed , traffic cant move an inch a minute. No ones cared if you bump on to some ones car. A small scratch, bumper misplaced is a common thing that gets ignored by just a raised hand "sorry". Pathetic!!!

Is this because of bad roads alone? We, who drive our vehicles in the morning rush are more to be blamed. No one follows traffic rules, no ones cared about signals. All we want is zoom around and reach office on time. What the hell! leave home early..

Whats most shocking is that, its affecting the emergency services like ambulance. Its a common sight nowadays, an ambulance having the beep and trying to make way in the busy filled roads.. most of the times unable to make it to the destination. And those stupid traffic police who stand and stare even with walkie talkie in their hand.. I think some basic training to react in these situations , either by alerting the next police person on route might help. Don't you think so! yes it will!Vatsahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17840434820203179079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2852438883478279736.post-53386148923465115052009-07-21T17:21:00.003+05:302009-07-22T09:38:09.790+05:30BusszzzzAfter everyday bus fights with the conductor during PU days, and a lonng longg gap of almost 3 years , last week I travelled by BUS. And through out the way I was remembering those days that are gone. Those footboarding days even though the bus is empty, fights in the bus to get down before the stop. Nothing much has changed in that aspect..these fights still go on :) But its when I started to gaze out of the window that I realised, I felt lost!! yes Lost.. although it was the same route that I travelled everyday to office, what I saw now was totally different. I was wondering how have those old 1947 buildings near MGroad comeup newly! It was so different.. peaceful.. far from the speeding vehicles and jammed roads. Thats when I decided its nice to have a bus ride back home once in a while. Afterall we need to get used to travelling inmetro isnt it :) hopefully! :PVatsahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17840434820203179079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2852438883478279736.post-67159484688689796162009-04-14T22:53:00.012+05:302009-04-18T23:51:04.561+05:30Kodachadri Trek9th to 12th April : The summer adventure!! This trip was special to us for many reasons.. I will get to those details later, but even after coming back to Bangalore I cant help but think of those amazing 4 days at and near Kodachadri.

After a lot of pestering Muneeb finally agreed to come and in style!! He made the trip memorable by making sure he slips and falls at every new place we visited :). It was Thursday evening and karthik was angry that we all came late as usual. We left Bangalore around 8 pm Thursday night. . as usual the forbidden night journey :). On the way to Kodachadri we stopped at a village where yakshagana was going on at 4am Friday morning. Where Arun was ( excited to be precise )surprised when a girl yakshagana character called him to take snap. But after he got to know that all yakshagana characters are played by guys.. the excitement died :P. There is a fort on the way, some 2 hours before Nitur . A nice place to spend some time . We reached Kodachadri around 5am. Kodachadri is the second highest peak in Karnataka and is also a holy place for many as the Sarvagna peetha is present atop the hill.

Kodachadri (Friday Day1) - Nittur : We changed and filled the bags with minimum necessities for trek , left rest of baggage in the car and got read. Had our breakfast in a nearby hotel. Accompanied by a guide we started trekking from nearby Nittur . It was pleasant morning... way different from Bangalore pollution. The trek path has more of forest path.. birds chirping , the early morning breeze kept our spirits high. The afternoon heat was not much of a problem as we were in the shade of trees most of time. Its around 10km trek from where we started to the peak. Most of it is forest except nearing the peak where its around 3km of open grass land. We reached the open land after many timeouts by Muneeb. On our way we enjoyed some time in water at Hitlumane falls. Water level was less but who cares when we are in high spirits :). After resting for sometime and having some snacks we started again. The forest cover began to disappear slowly as we entered the open grasslands . But the view from those plains are a treat. Much to our respite, there is a buttermilk shop on the way , where the galipata set was set up. The experience is unforgettable. 6 glasses of butter milk each and we were ready again. Towards the end , we will have to walk for around 2kms on road. There we planned where to camp. After having lunch, it was matter of seconds before we all started snoring. Had a peaceful nap till 4. And when we wole up Kodachadri surprised us. It was fog fog and fog everywhere. The hot sun beating on us at 2pm was not to be seen. The weather turned pleasant and we set out to climb to Sarvagna peetha. A 2 km trek from the IB camp site. Amazing place and an unforgettable experience. Came back after sunset and prepared for the camp fire. Night was crowded unfortunately, as it was public holiday and many had the same plans.

Kodachadri ( Saturday Day2) - We set out to see the sunrise early morning after a good fight for bathroom. Beautiful hills stood covered in early morning mist . The sun began clearing the mist and covered the forest ranges with its golden rays. You have to experience it to know it. After breakfast we started to climb down. We had planned to cover Kollur, St Mary's Island and Malpe beach. It was an eventful trek down hill as Muneeb entertained us with his falls ;). The descent was fast, we took around 2 hours . 11am we left Kodachadri towards Kollur. After a short visit to Kollur temple we left to Udupi where we had lunch. Next stop - St Mary's Island. We have to take a ferry to the place and its around 70 per head. Worth a ride! :) It was high tides and we had jolly time on the deck. St Mary's Island is worth a visit. You will find a lot of crabs and snails . And as usual Muneeb continued his falling spree. It was around 6pm when we left for Malpe beach. It was a lovely evening, shekar scolding not to venture deep in to the sea and we all running against the tides. That night we stayed at Ashwin's aunt's house. We were treated with Udupi hospitality. We visited Mahalingeshwara devasthanam before ending the day with good food good place good stay.. it was time to rest after a long eventful day.

Udupi (Sunday day3) - After early morning breakfast we left to Udupi Krishna temple. A quick visit to the temple and from there to Agumbe - Sringeri. We were planning to visit the King Cobra natural park but could'nt make it. Agumbe ghat was a superb drive. After taking some snaps of the view at sunset point at noon, we reached Sringeri around 1pm. Running to avoid getting our legs burnt, visited the temple . The fishes at tunga are a treat to watch. After a quick lunch at Sringeri we started at around 2:30pm to Bangalore.

It was after coming back from the trip, that we got to know, we had ventured to the most sensitive of naxal prone areas. Those moments are priceless . Its something I felt after I met and interacted with the kids of APSA Nammane(our home) . Dhanya asked me whether I would join her along with her team members to visit Nammane and spend some time with the kids there. It was Friday evening and as expected it started drizzling by late afternoon . We had planned some activities to be carried out there. The plan was to sponsor a days ration for the kids . And so we did , in fact for 2 days . I am glad there are people who are ready to contribute for a noble cause .

We reached the place around 4:30 . Heavy rains had gutted the place around the building. There was a visible demarcation , next to big posh flats , there were low huts, gutted in water . Evidence that rich get richer and poor much poorer.

Once we reached there, we were welcomed by the poem that they were taught in the previous visit. Kids do touch your heart don't they :) may be thats why kids are close to gods . Their smiles and energy, their enthusiasm made us forget ourselves for few minutes . It gave us an opportunity to become kids amongst them .To realize the kid within us far from the office life . We played around, enjoyed with them like small kids . That evening I spent one of the most memorable evening till date :) I wont get into details of what we did , what we arranged as these doesn't matter . What matters is that we were there with them , shared their joy . And mind you ,they are no less than us . Great minds who can prepare and enact a skit in 10mins , who dance like Hritiks and prabhudevas , can challenge anyone in singing . It was great to see them fearless to express themselves , something the "urban"kids often lack.

All this while I have been thinking of words to express my feeling , so that I can pen them down . But seems like those feelings cannot be expressed in words. Its a feeling to feel . A feel to remember , remembrance to be cherished in to memories . Memories that will last long :)

Do visit http://www.apsaindia.org/
http://www.apsaindia.org/projects.htm#nammaneVatsahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17840434820203179079noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2852438883478279736.post-55374209896119426762008-07-28T10:51:00.004+05:302008-09-29T17:41:45.957+05:30Booting thru GRUB command lineLately I have come across many questions , related to GRUB . Most common of the problems are
1. Installed windows after installing Linux , so there is no GRUB to boot to linux . How to get the grub ?
2. In case of GRUB failure , on a machine that has multiple OS , how to boot ?

Well in most of the cases , you have the #grub-install command that will do the job for you . But in order to run the command you need to be in linux env . And in case , where you are not able to boot in to linux might cause problems .

A simple solution for this is to have a grub floppy , that will help you boot in to required OS .

Or if you have a sloaris bootable disk , you get the grub along with it . So no need to try the floppy stuff. Boot from
cd/dvd , enter grub command line .. try the below options . .

ex: In this case if you want to boot into windows

grub> rootnoverify (hd0,0)
grub> makeactive
grub> chainloader +1
grub> boot

If you have more than one OS(in this example lets take Linux and Windows).
Then the kernel needs to be set : boot to linux (in my machine Linux is at (hd0,4) so
grub> root (hd0,4)
grub> kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15-8-i386 ro root=/dev/
<your kernel="">grub> initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.15-8-i386
grub> boot
(Change the text in red to suite your system )

Happy Booting :)

</your>
Vatsahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17840434820203179079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2852438883478279736.post-74657507436449067232008-07-25T00:22:00.003+05:302008-07-25T00:33:08.673+05:30Brahma Kamala (Selenicereus grandiflorus)

The night bloom, or ratri rani in kannada . Same time last , probably a day or two earlier , i was thinking what to do . Confused as to which company to join . Then the mind of a CS student from Bangalore kicked in " Obviously a PRODUCT COMPANY" , for all those 4 years of engineering. So there it all began, NOKIA SIEMENS NETWORKS , MG Road Bangalore .

U got to be lucky to have office in MG Road. Lots of restaurants , nice crowd in Brigade ;) and lot more . Best part of all , just 11kms from home . With all the anxiety and fear . . and enthusiasm , thinking what to answer when seniors ask me questions ... man.. isn't it memorable.I have been lucky in many ways . Made good friends , part of the coolest team in the company I should say . Its these small matters like , your comfort in the work , and the team , that matters in your long term relation with the company . Ill surely feel bad in case I have to leave this team .

Well lots of trips , making movies , birthday parties , team outings , and little bit of work :) ....
Its 23rd July 2008 . My 1year in office :)Vatsahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17840434820203179079noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2852438883478279736.post-60239824071976089872008-06-18T14:02:00.001+05:302008-06-19T12:08:20.824+05:30Waynad TripWaynad : green , breathtaking , beautiful ... i have no words to describe the place .

It had been a long time , no trip , no outing , office was becoming routine . Then came the best part . Outing without a plan . Thursday 12th june 08 , four bored souls met.. routinely.. and decided to go "somewhere" . No plans no preperations . Friday afternoon we set off , stopped just after srirangapattanam and decided : Madkeri or waynad??? a tough decision as both places are too good to miss . But why miss any ;) .

It was a long , eventful journey to waynad . The jungle of bandipur has lots in store . Well night journey in the dense forest is promising . Wild elephants roaming , deers , wild buffaloes .. so far from the civilization . amazing experience in the wilderness . In case you are adventurous go for the night journey nothing like it :)

We reached Waynad around 11pm . Stayed there for the night and decided to see places the next morning . Saturday started promisingly. Although it was off season we were lucky as the rain god decided not to descend heavily all day. The lush green hills , rain soaked trees , misty peaks , curvey roads amidst the greenery ... well u know , somethings you have to see it for yourself .
I can go on and on . . . but am lazy.. so ill write in detail about the places later .
Sunday the pit stop was madkeri . Abbi falls , Dubara elephant park , cauvery nisarga dhama , the Tibetan golden temple .

Why the hell did i have to come back to "MG ROAD" :)Vatsahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17840434820203179079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2852438883478279736.post-22563260599863914012008-01-15T17:28:00.000+05:302008-01-15T17:45:09.997+05:30Happy Makara Sankranti

Wishing all a very Happy Makara Sankranti .
"Yellu bella thindu volle mathu adu "..... And correctly so . Its good to see Indians showing their dominance for once by backing up a team member and lifting the spirits . In a country where cricket is a religion and still a gentleman's game , the respect for the Aussies has gone from bad to worse . If it existed at the first place .

With appeals like "thats out coz we are Aussies" going around in a test match , seldom does the opposite team get a chance to have its say . The "Bhajji" factor and that of the racial abuse angered the Indian cricket lovers. And to put it blankly the whole test match went on like this

Ponting :We Aussies start the match, with the old blind Bucknor in our "pockets" we can take atleast 2-3 wickets of Indians before first drinks break
Gilchrist :Are u sure u told him to wake up when we appeal
Symonds:Dont worry ill scare him to death with my shouts . He will have to raise his hand no matter what
Ponting: Symonds be careful , all media will be watching . Dont let them get to know your monkey truth
Symonds : Naa i wont . Im pretty good at it. Did they get to know in our Indian tour .No na

So the great Australian tamasha goes on...... :)Vatsahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17840434820203179079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2852438883478279736.post-14311786593806904772007-11-23T16:58:00.000+05:302007-11-23T17:02:11.616+05:30Windows on Ubuntu! VmwareWell for those of you who would not want windows to take up much of your disk space and want the operating system , here is the choice, Vmware . Its a old and well known tool. I tried it on my machine running Ubuntu 7.10 and works like charm :) . So instead of having all those grub and boot loading problems switch on and switch off any OS you like. I am also running Sloaris(build 55) on it with no issues.Vatsahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17840434820203179079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2852438883478279736.post-43803497505768776272007-11-11T11:04:00.000+05:302007-11-11T11:15:08.728+05:30Happy Diwali!!
A very happy and safe diwali to all :)
Yes its festival time. And what better reason than Diwali to enjoy !!."The festival of lights" is celebrated all over India . Well there are many stories behind the festival, each having its significant local presence. But apart from all of it, Diwali is a festival which bring people closer. Be it the deepas in front of houses, or the monumental buildings lit up, or be it the colorful decorations.. its full of colors and joy. After all thats what diwali is all about.. a close bond between people. A big concern is the growing pollution levels at the time of festival due to crackers. Promote safe and clean Diwali. But now i have a lot of things to share !! its festive season. Navaratri , Diwali .. all that enjoyment and some facts :). Everyone knows about the grand Mysore Dasara procession. One of the major tourist attractions during the festivities . But not many know about the 400 year old very interesting , intriguing facts in pages of history. I hate history because of the low scores i used to get in schooling days ! :) . But when u find out more about it , its so full of surprises. So after a not so long introduction about what i want to share , ill come to the point .

This is about the family of Mysore Maharajas .And the history books state these interesting facts. During the time of Vijaynagar empire , mysore was a subordinate kingdom , indirectly under the rule of Vijaynagar Kings. But in dew course when Vijaynagar lost its peak and other provinces became powerful the king of mysore at that time declared Mysore as an independent kingdom . It was not long when Vijaynagar gained back its lost power and the king of Mysore was defeated .

But an offensive was raged against the Vijaynagar kingdom by the ministers and army commanders of the Mysore empire . A conspiracy that led to the death of the king of Vijaynagar , leaving Vijaynagar at the mercy of the conspirators who took control of it . Alamelu was the queen of Vijaynagar at that time . Being a very rich empire Vijaynagar queen had a lot of jewelry with her . And her love for these jewels , led to a not so popular but interesting event in history of Mysore dynasty .

The king of Mysore wanted that those jewels be a part of his treasury and planned to have it by force as Alamelu had not agreed to part with it. Alamelu came to know about the intentions of the king . When messengers from the Mysore king arrived , they told her to part with the jewels as it would be made a part of the temple riches. But Alamelu did not budge and went on hiding near the now Talkad. But the kings spies got to know this and tried to take the jewels forcefully from her . Angered by this Alamelu jumped in to the cauvery river and cursed the Mysore king . The curse was :
Let the place where im drowning become a "madu" ( a very deep hole admist of a shallow place beneath water) , and that the whole of Talkad get submerged in sand , and let the King of Mysore not have any kids!!.
400 years after that curse , even now the King of Mysore does not have a kid . Few months after Alamelu's death Talkad got submerged in sand as a result of flooding . Even now the king of Mysore adopts a son . Till date there has not been a single natural heir to the thrown. Interesting point its been happening for almost 400 years now!!. Also the adopted child , who then becomes the King of Mysore will have a successor , as he is not the natural successor of the throne .But this successor wont have no kids!!. Amazing isnt it.
The current maharaja Srikantadutta Narasimharaja Wadiyar is the son of Jaichamarajendra Wadiyar . Srikantadutta Narasimharaja Wadiyar has no kids !!.Vatsahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17840434820203179079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2852438883478279736.post-54845572956178552572007-09-24T21:55:00.000+05:302007-09-24T22:14:32.670+05:30Champions!!!
World champions :) Chak de INDIA:) Well peaking at the right time. Happy Gouri Ganesh :-).This weekend you might be a bit more clever ( so keep the god Ganesh happy :-)). Yes its Ganesh chaturthi , festival celebrated in most parts of India . The god of knowledge as he is known will be seen in different shades matching the imagination of the devotee (IT Ganesh with a cd instead of chakra!! ). Its nice to see that in this fast moving and modern world people still follow these rituals , in fact thats what makes INDIA different. We _Indianize_ things :-).

HAPPY GOURI GANESH :-)Vatsahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17840434820203179079noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2852438883478279736.post-62543084198881327162007-09-14T16:35:00.000+05:302007-09-14T16:43:12.916+05:30Dhamaal
Four unemployed men are on a treasure hunt for booty hidden in a graveyard
somewhere in Goa. Its been more fun then work :) It was a team outing at Ebony(28th,Tuesday).For those of you searching for a nice place to eat in midst of your hectic work and need a cool nice place to spend time , Ebony is a good choice. The 13th floor balcony offers you a great view of Bangalore. It was our (Srivatsa, Vikas, Nandini, Archit, Jagadeesh : in reverse intelligence order :p) first salary treat. After a long discussion and lot of analysis as to which place to go we finally decided on Ebony. It was nice fun . A good experience. Not to mention , it did help us knowing each other well . We got gifts from out seniors as well :)

And finally due to all those advantages of team outings and parties " we the freshers of Nokia Siemens Solemnly swear that we will organize such outings regularly :) "

Vatsahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17840434820203179079noreply@blogger.com0
